no good name for this guy yet...
Tuesday, August 31st, 2010I tested out a new digital style at Dr. Sketchy's last night, and I like the look:
I also dig the subject. I've been wanting to work with a personified cactus character for some time now, and I guess this is the culmination of my previous efforts.
I've made some earlier attempts here and there, but nothing quite so solid. Anyway, I'm thinking that this guy will be the subject of my 24 Hour Comics Day effort this year.
the Saucy Surfer strides through space
Saturday, August 14th, 2010Sleepwalker sketch, Project Basement, and tons more
Wednesday, July 28th, 2010I've been working hard on a TON of projects, including:
- the upcoming Time Log webcomic (only one more week to go!)
- the most recent (and final, for the time being) story arc on Super Haters
- a new opening theme for the Comic Book Pitt podcast (the song itself will be available on my next album, 7 Star Sky Flash Kick, due out whenever I have 13 original tracks mixed and mastered for release)
- Project Basement, a fan art collection of raw, energetic pieces
- coordinating the comics end of SPF 2010 (SPF as in Pittsburgh's Small Press Festival)
- contributing to the Sequential Underground Strip Club vol 1 (a rotating series of fast and fun comic strips)
- getting the Time Log one-shot into a ton of stores (shout outs to Dragon's Lair in San Antonio and Austin, Tribe in Austin, Atomic Comics in San Antonio, Alien Worlds in San Antonio, St. Mark's Comics in Manhattan NYC, Comicazi in Somerville MA, Hub Comics in Somerville, New England Comics in Cambridge, Copacetic Comics in Pittsburgh, and Phantom of the Attic Comics in Oakland/Pittsburgh -- all these shops picked up copies of Time Log to sell in their stores)
- and doing this Sleepwalker sketch for Ross because he took my Henry Poole is Here challenge:

SPACE 2010 Sketchbook - The Living Bling vs. Sir Log-a-Lot
Sunday, May 16th, 2010My third and final SPACE 2010 versus sketch features the two most realized characters of the sketchbook: The Living Bling and Sir Log-a-Lot (thanks to Dan Greenwald for naming the latter).
Sir Log-a-Lot is definitely Burger King inspired, while The Living Bling is someone that my followers will be seeing again in the very near future!
SPACE 2010 Sketchbook - Ahab 2323 vs. Battle Pixie
Friday, May 14th, 2010SPACE 2010 Sketchbook - Goat Boy vs. Mecha Ram
Wednesday, May 12th, 2010A few weeks back, I exhibited at SPACE in Columbus. I did some badass versus sketches (including a crazy Dazzler one that I gave away) and I'd like to share a few of my favorites with you.
First up is... well, the title says it all. Goat Boy was a very spontaneous sort of thing, while Mecha Ram was a bit more intentional.
Tekkoshocon 2010 Sketchbook - Batman
Monday, April 19th, 2010Here's the last installment in my best of Tekko 2010 sketchbook!
Let's end things with my simple Batman sketch. I tried to capture the basic iconics of the character -- costume, setting, and mood. It's probably a bit overly simple, but that's what I dig about it.
Tekkoshocon 2010 Sketchbook - Robot Moses
Friday, April 16th, 2010The best of my Tekko 2010 sketchbook continues!
Up next is robot Moses, a request from my friend and frequent collaborator, Shawn Atkins. "Let my robots go!"
Tekkoshocon 2010 Sketchbook - Alligator Taking a Shower
Wednesday, April 14th, 2010Over the next few days, I'm gonna toss up some sketches I did over the weekend at Tekkoshocon, Pittsburgh's annual anime convention. I hope you enjoy the best of my Tekko 2010 sketchbook!
First up is an alligator taking a shower. Believe it or not, this is not even close to the first time I've drawn an alligator taking a shower. Seriously.
Best of Dr. Sketchy's - March 2010
Wednesday, March 24th, 2010Best of Dr. Sketchy's - February 2010
Monday, March 8th, 2010No, this isn't THE best of Dr. Sketchy's for Feb 2010... it's MY best piece from the Pittsburgh Dr. Sketchy's in Feb 2010. The theme was Sketchily Clad, a lingerie series of bizarre burlesque poses.
