Christopher understands my preference for Man-hours

Friday, May 9th, 2014

Sometimes I'm mistaken for being a different Nick Marino and I go along with it. Other times I go out of my way to have a little fun and mess with the SEO spammers that email the AudioShocker.

In the recent past I've tangled with Jay and John, both of whom work for the same spammy SEO company. The moment I glanced at Christopher's email, I knew that he worked for them too.

Okay, so it took me some time to figure out what "wo dekho chutiya" means. It's Hindi and basically it translates to "Look! An asshole."

In the process of translating that slang phrase, I found the original version of that image on a meme site and decided to serve up a classic comeback.

Christopher never replied to me.

And then there was the time when someone nominated me to judge the James Beard Foundation Awards

Monday, March 24th, 2014

It's no secret -- there are a lot of guys named Nick Marino out there and for some reason everybody thinks we all share the same email address.

Last October, I was contacted by the good people at the James Beard Foundation. Apparently somebody nominated me Nick Marino to judge the journalism portion of their annual culinary awards.

Why'd I wait so long to share this mistaken identity gold with you? Because I wasn't sure if I was actually judging the awards until they finally announced this year's nominees last week!

Here was our exchange:

- Here's an edited PDF of my official letter and reply form.

That was the last I heard from the JBF. To be honest with you, I was kinda looking forward to being a judge. But I guess my gross food photography and profane enthusiasm just wasn't what they were seeking. 🙁

UPDATE 04.16.14: I received an unexpected invitation to the JBF Awards Gala in the mail today.

Hmmmm I'm pretty sure I never judged anything...

Elliot needs me to vouch for a new hire

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

Sometimes fortune smiles down upon me and an email meant for another Nick Marino lands in my inbox. Actually, it's not just sometimes... it's all of the time.

I received this gem bright and early on Tuesday morning:

Elliot definitely emailed the wrong Nick Marino. I don't know Will BLANK and I never worked with Christopher BLANK.

In fact, I think I know the Nick Marino that Elliot's trying to reach. I guess I could've told him that he emailed the wrong guy. But where's the fun in that?!?

I guess that is the kind of person Elliot wants working for him because I'm still waiting for a reply. Anyway, congrats on your new job, Chris!!!

P.S. If you're wondering "Did Nick Google Chris's name, find one of his prom photos, and Photoshop Hitler's face onto his lovely date?" the answer is YES.
