Growing Evil

Making Evil Podcast - Episode 1

Thursday, July 25th, 2019

Nils-Petter Norlin and Nick Marino (that's me!) talk about how they began developing The Evil Life webcomic eight years ago, looking back at the early years of their long (and largely secret) collaboration that's finally being seen by the world!

A MODOK sketch by Nils from Nick's old blog series, Project Basement.

Along with recounting the beginning of their storytelling partnership, Nils and Nick tease their upcoming underwater koala graphic novel by comparing the way that they make comics nowadays to the organic and unexpected way that The Evil Life was developed and written years ago.

A 2011 concept sketch of Prince Gloom's bedroom by Nils.

You can follow The Evil Life webcomic here on this site or over on Webtoon. We've released three chapters so far (1: Take Care, 2: Royal Grumble, and 3: The Curse) and our fourth chapter will be out next week.

The Evil Life: Growing Evil, Chapter 3

Tuesday, July 16th, 2019

First we took you to the serene suburbs of North Megaville, then we were off to a secret island nation called Monakwa, and now it's... the stars! Nils-Petter Norlin and I are thrilled to introduce you to the final main character of our lead trio, even if that character is just a sleepy lil baby alien right now and doesn't even have a name yet.

Hi, Valoronia... bye, Valoronia! Oh well, it seemed like a nice enough place, right? Frankly, I love Nils-Petter Norlin's vision for this weird planet so much that I'm awfully sad to see it go every single time I read this chapter (and lemme tell ya... I've read this chapter more times than I can count).

As always, don't forget that you can follow The Evil Life on Webtoon too. We do things a little different over there with formatting and layout, so if you enjoyed this chapter here then you might also enjoy reading Chapter 3 on Webtoon as well.

Last time I posted an entry of this webcomic, I was driving across America. It was crazy, it was fun, and it was intense. This time I'm back home in SoCal, and now the rest of the world is about to converge 100 miles south of me for San Diego Comic-Con this week. I'll be there too, driving my wife Rosie to and from the convention. Maybe I'll even pop in to catch one of her panels or visit my friends who're exhibiting there. If you wanna say hi, tweet me and we'll see if we can make it happen.

I'll be back here in two weeks with more of The Evil Life, and next time we're returning to Megaville to check up on Hester as she enters her college years!

The Evil Life: Growing Evil, Chapter 2

Tuesday, July 2nd, 2019

We hope you enjoyed visiting North Megaville and Hester Herman in our last chapter! This time we've got something completely different in mind as we whisk you off to an uncharted island in an uncharted sea.

Before you read it, though, I just wanna take a moment to gush about how much I love Nils-Petter Norlin's art. We've poured all of our imagination into this tale, and I think the architecture and character designs in this chapter show just how much Nils has strived to bring you something fantastic and unique.

Tap any panel to open the webcomic in fullscreen, and then click or swipe through the entire chapter. (Oh, and you can read us on Webtoon too!)

Aww, wasn't that such a touching ending? Let's try to enjoy this moment of familial bliss while we can because things are only going to get a whole lot tougher for our characters before they get better.

If you use Webtoon, don't forget to check us out on there. And, hey, it would be terrific if you could subscribe and throw us a like while you're at it.

Anyway, I'm in the middle of a road trip across America, so I gotta go get back behind the wheel and burn rubber. I'll see ya with another fun chapter in two weeks!
