Nik Furious: Proton Cannon: Last Night

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

I love this beat but damn if it isn't weird! It reminds me of that Elvis "Viva Las Vegas" remix that charted in the early 00s -- the original loops contrast heavily with my digital drums.

This is one of the few times I successfully sampled a song with that 60s r&b sound. It's tough music to cut up, similar to hard rock, because there are rarely peaks and valleys in the sound wave. But I like a challenge!

Nik Furious: Proton Cannon: Got Laid

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Like I was saying last time, you'll notice a pretty heavy rock influence in Proton Cannon. And that was a big experiment for me at the time when I made this beat.

Sampling rock is totally different than sampling r&b or soft rock or something with a more mellow tone. The drums create bigger peaks and valleys in the sound waves of softer songs, making the music easier to cut. Rock, on the other hand, takes a lot more effort to make seamless snips between separate sections.
